¿Por qué hacemos lo que hacemos? (Sí, puede ser que hoy vengo con muchas preguntas...a ver) ¿Por qué? Bueno, hacemos lo que hacemos porque no podemos no hacerlo, la actividad nos lleva, por ejemplo, o por necesidad como ganar dinero para comer y vivir bien, o por el puro gusto, o porque somos adictos a la actividad o el hábito, o por tener la buena salud, o por equis razón. Hay una infinidad de posibilidades.
La segunda pregunta es: ¿Estamos haciendo lo que de verdad queremos hacer o lo hacemos porque "no nos queda otra" o "nos dijo nuestra mamá" o "nos da prestigio" o "deberíamos hacerlo para lucir bien" o....o....o??????????????????
Why do we do what we do? Is it because we have to even though we may not want to? Do we do things out of pleasure, habit, addiction, to earn money, for our health or what?
Are we doing what we love? If we're not, then is the result of our doingness somewhat dimished, somewhat less than it could be?
Pregunto todo esto porque ayer me di cuenta de algo, algo que no había pensado en mucho tiempo. Estaba ayudando a unos actores con sus papeles porque estoy trabajando como asistente directora para una obra de teatro. Durante este ensayo de repente me di cuenta que esto es lo que debo hacer, como mi trabajo, enseñar actuación, el arte dramático, if you will. Yes, I thought, why am I only teaching Spanish when so few people want to learn the language? Everyone wants to be an actor. Acting is in my blood, I can teach it, I can direct plays, I've done it for many years, most of my life. Why am I not doing this? I only find myself doing it on a volunteer basis...community theatre, church plays, etc.
Well, I'll tell you why. There's no money in it. There isn't much money in teaching Spanish either, but still I'm doing it. So what's the difference? Hmmmm.....no sé realmente.
La verdad, me gusta enseñar español, entonces, my heart is in it, but I also love the theater and I love the process of working with actors, watching them grow and blossom, bring a story to life, reach out to an audience.
