The Dream
How awful it is to feel like that, your naked behind in front of the world, walking in a store looking for clothing to cover yourself and not finding anything, pulling at the t-shirt, trying to pull it down in order to cover your nudity…and nobody notices, they act as if this were the most normal thing. Oh, dreams…why do I find myself like that, going around dressed only in a t-shirt, no pants, not even underwear and me dying of embarrassment? I realize it’s a dream and I want to create a pair of shorts or something but I can’t. So I look for clothing, find a cotton dress and I put it on with the price tag and everything thinking that I’ll leave it on when I go pay, it doesn’t matter that the price tag is there, at least I’m covered.
Do dreams make sense? What do you dream? Why? What do your dreams tell you? Maybe something, maybe nothing, but nevertheless, dreams are very very important.
Soy Lorena.

¡Ya Regresó el Arroyo! /The Stream is Back!
The Stream is Back!
The Earth called me today, my Earth and quickly I put on my boots, ski pants, ski jacket, hat, gloves, iPod, camera…oops, I had to go back for the camera when I saw the stream running again after long months of total dryness. There was blue in the sky this morning for a change, and it was windy, a cold wind that was warming at the same time, the same wind I felt in my dreams this morning, dreams where I am free and I don’t have to work as a waitress, I can go out walking in the open air, where I say good-by to a man I love very much giving him a big hug and knowing that I will miss him, where I see my ex and I feel a kind of love for him and all the time the wind is blowing hard even though we are on the beach…we are not on the beach here, the white “sand” is snow, but it doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter, because I saw what my Earth wanted to show me, I saw it very clearly.
IT’S SPRING, my friends, yes, spring is in the air, the air that blows, the air that caresses, the air that loves me and again I feel the great love that exists in the Universe, the love that goes through me and continues on its way to the air so free to embrace all those who are ready to accept it. My beautiful spring, the trees slowly waking up, the snow crunching beneath my feet, my labyrinth completely covered up waiting patiently for the day when it will appear again, and in spite of all this, there is something different in the air, a glimpse, a newly arrived freshness and my stream that runs runs runs with an urgency to wash out the pond.
I give thanks for being alive in this moment.
Soy Lorena.

no extrañar, aceptar
no llorar, aceptar
no anhelar, aceptar
no arrepentirme, aceptar
no desesperarme, aceptar
no estar frustrada, aceptar
no impacientarme, aceptar
no asumir, aceptar
no tomar nada personal, aceptar
no decir "ch--", aceptar
o sea....aceptar, ACEPTAR
y es todo--
¿no es fácil?
Soy Lorena.

Todavía no supero a mi temor. Los “Daddy long legs.”
The Spider Story
I have a fear of spiders since I was a child.
A short time ago when I was in the bedroom of the house in San Miguel de Allende, I saw a spider walking across the floor, a black spider and I knew I wasn’t going to be able to sleep with the spider in my room. I went for the vacuum cleaner and my glasses in order to see it better. The spider was no dummy. He knew that I didn’t like him and he hid in the throw rug. When I came back with the vacuum cleaner I didn’t see him at first. But then I saw him, almost the color of the throw rug, completely still as if hoping I wouldn’t see him. I turned on the vacuum cleaner. With the tube of the vacuum cleaner I got closer to the spider. He realized what I was going to do and took off running, poor thing, but wasn’t able to escape. I know I am a coward. The vacuum cleaner sucked up the innocent spider and right away I felt bad. The truth is, I had no alternative. I still haven’t overcome my fear. Actually, the fear I feel is less than when I was a child and I can put up with the spiders that hang out in the corners of the rooms because they stay there and don’t wander around anywhere else. The Daddy long legs. Teddy protects me from the spiders even though I know they are more afraid of me than I am of them...and with good reason.

Orgullo/ Pride
Y eso es “the spice of life.”
Pride
“I’m proud to be Mexican,” he told me and asked me if I was proud to be a North American. It’s a difficult question for me because right away I think about my government and all the mistakes and horrors that it does and I don’t find pride in any of that.
“I criticize my country a lot,” I told him.
“Isn’t there anything you like about your country?” he asked me.
Well, yes, there is a lot I like about my country. What happens is that I focus on the bad stuff and that’s not good.
The good part of my country is the people. There are many good people, aware people, educated ones, who are not in agreement with what our government does, people who are generous with their time and money to help the needy, people who work toward making changes in established policies on the environment for example.
My country is very organized. On the one hand it’s easy to live in my country. Everything is clean, orderly, sterile even...or supposedly.
There are opportunities in my country for anyone to be successful or at least to have a decent life without regard to their race or class. There are laws against discrimination.
Sometimes there are too many laws for my taste.
Something that my country has missed the boat on is the fact of creating zoning laws for homes and where there are homes there cannot be stores or schools or car mechanics or cafés, etc. Those places have their own special zone and they do not mix with the housing neighborhoods. Well, I’m talking about the suburbs. In the city things are not so strict.
In Mexico these zoning laws don’t exist and therefore, you can go out of your house, walk a little and find a grocery store or a dry cleaners or a hardware store and so forth besides more homes. There is community. It’s easy to find yourself with your neighbors, meet people who live in your neighborhood, go to the cafe and chat with your neighbor.
But really I don’t want to compare, because variety in life is what makes it interesting. If my country were like Mexico, I would not be taking trips there to meet different people from the ones in my country and tromping around the streets with no zoning rules, speaking another language, learning new things, joking with my new friends, assimilating into another culture, making my life more interesting and attractive.
And that is “the spice of life.”
To finish with the main point....am I proud to be a Northamerican? Well, maybe of the good things, yes I’m proud, or just lucky to have been born in my country and to have the benefits of having been born in the USA. Did I choose to be born in the USA?
Who knows?
Soy Lorena.

El agno nuevo/The new year
ahora
y
ahora!!!
The new year
We say goodbye to the "old year" and we welcome the "new year." My question is: What is the new year?
Is it something different or simply another day, another moment, another hope?
Why is the "new year" different from the "old year?"
If we only have this moment to live, then neither the "old year" nor the "new year" exists.
Everything is illusion or invented by us or imagination or ritual or an excuse to celebrate being alive..or...who knows?
But that's the way it is and that's the way it will continue to be.
Happiness and abundance to all
for now
and
now!!!
Soy Lorena.
